Kern A Community Solar Garden
Kern A Community Solar Garden
Completed in May 2021, the Kern A Community Solar Garden in West Frankfort, Illinois showcases the power of collaboration between New Energy Equity and local landowners. This 2.88 MW solar installation, featuring over 7,500 panels, generates enough clean energy to power 430 average Illinois homes annually while offsetting over 3,200 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
By hosting this project, local landowners unlocked a new revenue stream while supporting their community’s access to affordable, renewable energy. Through the Illinois Community Solar Program, local businesses, municipalities, and schools can subscribe to the solar garden, reducing their energy costs without the need for on-site solar installations. The Kern A Community Solar Garden demonstrates how landowners can create lasting economic benefits for their community while making the most of their property.
