The Specialty Manufacturing Co.

The Specialty Mfg. Co. has a rich heritage in St. Paul that spans more than a century and four generations. A family business, the company was built on creative energy, a tradition of helping people with their products, and a commitment to supporting its community. All three of these pillars factored into the company’s decision to go solar.

“Beyond the tax benefits and the sustainability component, solar is a proven technology. Not only can we predict what the systems will produce based on our 1,000+ installations, but we can also track production online. It’s extremely gratifying to show Specialty Manufacturing that the arrays have already produced 114 megawatt hours in their short tenure,” said Andy Stahlman, New Energy Equity sales executive. “One of Specialty Manufacturing’s goals was to operate more efficiently, and together, we’ve made that a reality by using two rooftops that were previously an afterthought.”

Within just 8 months, New Energy Equity successfully installed 400-kilowatt (kW) solar arrays on two Specialty Mfg. buildings in St. Paul that, when combined, produce 800 kW of electricity at full capacity. These arrays are believed to be the most significant member installation among electric cooperatives state wide.
